Throne change

April 30, 1980, Queen Juliana hands over the kingship to her daughter Princess Beatrix. Now, 33 years later, on April 30, 2013, this then princess stands as our beloved princess for her eldest son Prince Willem Alexander to transfer her kingship. Queen Beatrix has represented us as a nation in a very human and dignified manner in a very special way in 33 years. Reason enough for us to make a pin for this in limited edition.

Tribute through collaboration

The queen’s role as queen resonated strongly with the people behind our foundry and Studio Soethout. In a collaboration between our creative companies, the idea was conceived to combine the skills and to pay tribute at the special moment of the throne change. After sketch and design, a coronation pin was made in a fully traditional manner, which is cast in a limited edition for people who want to have a memento of this special day.

The pin

The pin is 4 cm large and 2.5 cm wide and cast from pure tin. The finish (which is completely done by hand) gives the pin a detailed and traditional look. The pin is available in a glossy and a matte version.

In royal hands

Our pin has actually come into royal hands. During a visit of King Willem Alexander to Curacao, Annie and Hilda Megens handed the pin along the side of the road. The reaction was full of surprise and wonder.
